Artist Description: A 3-way artist collaboration between myself (animation), Sara Slaughter (mural/illustration) and Melody Stang (music). These sprites “turn the lights on” in a collaborative and unexpected way.
Inspiration: Taking inspiration from M. C. Escher and stories of mischievous sprites that occupy the nooks and crannies of busy spaces.
Process: Illustration file imported into After Effects and animated for a 15 second loop.
*Second place People’s Choice award from MAUD

An experimental approach to animation using acrylic gels and stop motion. It turned into an accidental reflection on anxiety and breath work.
I loved creating the colourful dreamscapes and playing with puppets, loops and composites. If I were to go back into production for this piece I would add more love to the sound design, and perhaps a few more animation sequences with the puppets.

An anonymous alien is abruptly awoken from cryostasis by a beckoning sound. They follow it through the galaxy, surprised by what they find.
I love the Quickdraw Animation Lockdown as a way to pump out a complete animation full with sound and local music.
It was first time compositing Procreate and After Effects for an animated film and I haven’t looked back!! It’s become a staple method for animating.
